1/4-Scale Model Building
Small plastic and metal model car kits from makers such as Monogram, AMT and Revell thrilled everyone of all ages throughout the years with hours and hours of enjoyment. Everything from Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Dragsters, Funny Cars, Monster Trucks, Military Vehicles and even working engines with see-thru parts showing movement powered by batteries. I remember buying one or two cars each week on average and took my time painting each part in full detail letting it dry overnight. Gluing took days and applying the decals required a very steady hand. (In fact, I still have box's of unfinished models, thousands of parts and unused decals sitting collecting dust.) We used to have contests to see who built the best models and even took pictures of them. (There are many contests offered by model building clubs and organizations issuing trophies and cash prizes for all different levels and categories.) One day I wondered if those old unbuilt models, model parts and decals were worth anything and decided to browse the internet for information. I started searching eBay, to see if those old models were worth anything and how much they were actually getting. To my surprise, they can fetch a few bucks! Not worth writing about, but worth something to someone that would enjoy them.
As I looked at various ads, my interest in model cars were re-kindled. Then I searched around to see if I could find some of my long-lost favorite models. I found various sites that offered a wide scale of models for sale. Then I stumbled across information on model cars built by a guy by the name of Arthur Fairce. He builds 1/4 scale cars, trucks and bikes from scratch with things laying around the house or junk yard that you could never imagine being used for something like this. After checking out his web site, I became very interested in his work and decided to do a feature on all of his 1/4 scale model cars.
Check out each of his model car projects shown below as you will be quite amazed at his work and accomplishments! His work is very accurate with great attention to detail, and goes beyond the typical guidelines of model car building as we all are familiar with.
